ABOUT ME

Hi!

I specialise in sound design, spatial audio, and audio programming, with a specific interest in technical approaches to immersive game sound design. I am currently based in Leeds, UK, whilst studying an MSc. in Audio and Music Technology at the University of York. I have recently Graduated with a First-Class Degree in BA(Hons) Creative Music Technology from Bath Spa University, after moving from St Ives, Cornwall in 2018.

I enjoy exploring areas of human-computer interaction in audio, including interface design, digital signal processing, and app development. PureData is often my weapon of choice, and there are very few projects that haven't utilised this language in some way. In 2020, I developed a Modular Synthesis and Processing System using PureData, and I have also used it to generate Plugins for Wwise using the Heavvy Compilser, and iOS Apps using LibPd. That said, I also integrate higher level languages into my work including C#, Objective-C, Swift, Python, Java, and MATLAB, and am always looking to advance these skills by engaging with projects such as Game development, physical modelling, and AI.

I also have a collection of Tape equipment that I often use for personal projects such as composition and live performance. Many of which I have modded with speed pots and CV inputs, that I can control using custom controllers in Pd.

In 2014 I founded the 'Tower Music Project' to engage local young people in St Ives with music led workshops in performance and production. Tower has expanded into a multimedia venue, where I have had the opportunity to explore AV installations, multi-channel performances, and multitrack recording. I am also a Director of Towers’ parent organisation Flashlight St Ives, which is an organisation that supports vulnerable young people in St Ives. This role has enabled me to gain skills in youth work, leadership, project management, safeguarding, and funding. In 2021 I worked with a nutritionist and student dietitian, on developing a program to empower vulnerable young people to gain skills in cooking balanced, healthy meals on a limited budget. I am very interested in social projects and exploring ways of supporting communities within my field, which is why the accessibility of technology has become one of my main interests within music technology.

Between 2016-2018 I was employed as live sound engineer at the St Ives Jazz Club. During my 2-year period there, I engineered over 100 shows, working with accomplished international acts including The  Ronnie  Scott’s  All-Stars;  Lura  Jurd’s Dinosaur (Mercury Prize nominees, 2017); Misha Mullav-Abbado (BBC Radio 3  New  Generation  Artist,  and  Jacob  Collier collaborator);  and  Maria Chiara Argiò. Here, I  gained experience in live sound in a high-pressure environment, dealing with often challenging technical situations, time constraints, and professional musicians.
